SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the general supervision of the University Librarian, the Electronic Resources Librarian provides leadership and expertise in the management and organization of electronic resources to meet the teaching and learning needs of Emily Carr University of Art + Design. The Electronic Resources Librarian actively participates in library liaison work including reference, instruction, and departmental outreach. Duties may also include participation in the planning and implementation of new library services and technologies. This is a public‐facing position that regularly interacts with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and members of the public. The successful candidate will join a committed team of library professionals and will be expected to be a full participant, along with the rest of the library team, in the defining and achieving of library goals. As faculty members librarians are expected to serve on administrative committees, engage in research, and to be an active member of the Emily Carr community.

Typical duties associated with this role include: overseeing the management and organization of the library’s electronic resources, including actively researching emerging trends and new developments; collaborating with colleagues to select electronic resources that meet the collection mandate of the library; and proposing and implementing solutions for the effective management of electronic resources. This role will act as a liaison librarian for the Faculty of Design and Dynamic Media and the Masters of Design program and will work with faculty to plan and provide library resources and services that support the delivery of university curriculum. Liaison librarians also plan and deliver library research instruction, both in person and online, including workshops, orientations and tours. The Electronic Resources Librarian will contribute to the planning, content, and implementation of web‐based resources and participate in the preparation and revision of library policies, procedures, documentation, and reports.

QUALIFICATIONS
A successful candidate will have the following qualifications and/or related experience:
  • master’s degree in Library and Information Studies, or equivalent, from an accredited institution;
  • undergraduate degree with a strong focus in visual art, media, design, or art history;
  • two years related work experience as a professional Librarian, or an equivalent combination of prior work experiences;
  • an active interest or involvement in contemporary arts, design, or media practices is preferred.

Experience in the following areas will be considered an asset:
  • experience performing the management and acquisition of electronic resources in an academic or research library or an academic library consortium;
  • experience providing information services and library instruction;
  • supervision of staff;
  • mentoring co‐op students and interns;
  • demonstrated interest in professional development and involvement in library professional organizations.


SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of innovative approaches to managing electronic resources and providing library instruction.
  • Knowledge of electronic resources and bibliographic tools for visual art, media, design, critical studies and cross‐disciplinary subjects.
  • Keen interest in new and emerging technologies.
  • Proactive in exploring new outreach and service opportunities and modifying existing ones.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Dedication to team development and excellent peer interactions.
  • Ability to set priorities in an environment with multiple, simultaneous demands.

Subject to budgetary approval, we anticipate commencement in August 2021. Salary and rank will be commensurate with professional status and teaching experience.
