The Faculty of Fine Arts is one of the pre-eminent faculties of its kind in Canada. Among all the post-secondary institutions in British Columbia, it is the only Faculty of Fine Arts. Inaugurated in 1969, the Faculty of Fine Arts is well established at the University of Victoria and is home to the Departments of Art History and Visual Studies, Theatre, Visual Arts, Writing and the School of Music. Additionally, through the Dean's Office, the Faculty offers interdisciplinary courses ranging in topics from cultural issues to technology—anchored by our Studios for Integrated Media.

Reporting to the Vice-President Academic and Provost, the Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, is responsible for providing strategic and administrative leadership to the University’s Fine Arts programs as the chief academic and administrative officer. As a member of the senior leadership team, the Dean works in collaboration with the other Deans and academic leaders, senior administrators and staff, donors and alumni as well as other key stakeholders to implement and advance the UVic’s Strategic Plan and objectives.

The successful candidate will be an inspiring and strategic leader with a strong record of success as an academic administrator and a strong understanding of the arts and arts education in Canada. The successful candidate will have demonstrated teaching, creative activity, research and academic track record, with knowledge of program development and academic administration. The successful candidate will have exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire innovation, build community and collaboration while meeting the evolving and diverse needs of students, faculty and staff.

A Doctorate or Masters in a related discipline and eligible for an appointment at the rank of full professor at UVic, with a distinguished creative or scholarly reputation in the candidate’s field.
