Tenure Track Position: Theatre Acting and Directing

The Department is housed within the Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance (MAP) and we invite applications for a tenure-track appointment in the area of Acting and Directing at the rank of Assistant Professor to commence July 1, 2020.

The successful candidate :
is responsible for developing and teaching an integrated approach to voice and movement, and will teach acting classes across all areas of the undergraduate acting program. You will be required to direct department productions in rotation with other faculty members. The focus of the departmentís training is a mix of classic theatrical styles and established practices, but with devised theatre and self-production being the main goal. One department production each year will be a new work devised by a class or performance of a new work by an emerging playwright. The successful candidateís main area of teaching will be in the acting program but in addition, the candidate is expected to have the ability to teach script analysis, and one studies course in an area of interest.

Candidates must possess:
a PhD or MFA degree with an emphasis on acting and directing, with strengths in vocal performance. Preference will be given to candidates with theatre teaching experience at the post-secondary level in combination with professional theatre experience. Experience in voice and movement techniques, collaborative approaches to theatre-making (devised, collective and community) and directing established or new playscripts is required. The ability to teach across the curriculum is essential. Candidates should also demonstrate professional or teaching experience in two of the following areas; physical theatre, clown, circus, new play creation and/or self-production. You will be expected to attract, supervise and mentor graduate students in our programs.

will maintain a critical and/or creative research program, and will also demonstrate a desire and willingness to contribute to the life of the Department, Faculty, and University. You will be part of our collaborative team, creating new initiatives and vision for the Department of Theatre and the Faculty of MAP.
