About the University

The University of Saskatchewan is a Canadian public research university and was founded in 1907. The University is located on the east side of the South Saskatchewan River in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. The University began as an agricultural college, and it has since expanded to over 200 different academic programs.  Discoveries made at the University of Saskatchewan include suphate-resistant cement and the cobalt-60 cancer therapy unit.

College of Arts and Science

The College of Arts and Science was founded in 1908 and continues to be the largest and most dynamic college on the University of Saskatchewan’s campus. The college is unique in Canada as it’s one of the few to combine arts and science course offerings within the same college. This approach provides students with an invaluable and broad perspective of the world. An education at the college equips students with numerous skills and qualifications they require to be successful in the workplace.

“The goal of the College of Arts and Science is to be recognized as the most innovative and imaginative centre for Arts and Science scholarship in Canada.”

“With its unique disciplinary breadth, the College of Arts and Science exists to stimulate creative and critical thought, foster the joy of discovery and nurture curiosity-driven research. Collectively, we strive to advance the individual, embrace diversity, enrich society, preserve culture, while creating a sustainable civil world and natural environment.”

The College of Arts and Science is comprised of 22 departments, 4 affiliated programs and 15 interdisciplinary programs, taught by more than 300 faculty members.  Arts and Science provides approximately half of the undergraduate courses offered at the University, with 60 subject areas.
