Emily Carr University of Art + Design
About the University
Emily Carr University was founded in 1925 and it remains a vital part of the Vancouver, British Columbia and the Canadian art communities. The University is the only one in British Columbia that is dedicated to education and learning in the arts, media and design. The University also advocates and promotes the arts to reinforce public support of fine arts, media arts and design.
Faculty of Visual Art + Material Practice
The diversity and complexity of contemporary art practices is reflected in the studio-based education. Visual Art and Material Practice has a strong emphasis on conceptual, technical and historical knowledge. The studio programs focus on ceramics, drawing, illustration, painting, photography, print media and sculpture, which along with art history and studio seminars lead to a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
Students work in a stimulating environment where they learn new skills and concepts. Our teaching faculty of artists are dedicated to fostering a supportive and productive learning community focused on contemporary art practices.
“We pride ourselves in knowing that we are graduating artists who research, produce, and present their artwork within a broad global cultural economy and become leaders in a world that is constantly changing.”
